Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State cross country team will run for the second time in six days when they head to Sacramento for the NCAA Inter-Regional Jamboree on Friday, October 4th. The men will run an 8K race for the second straight meet and will start at 9:30 a.m. The Bulldog women will run a 5K this weekend and they take off at 10:30 a.m.
The races are being held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. Haggin Oaks will also be home of the 2013 NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships on November 15th.
Annemarie Schwanz will look to build on her strong start to the 2013 season on Friday in Sacramento. The sophomore, who was selected as the Mountain West Women's Athlete of the Week, has finished fourth at the Fresno State Invitational and ninth at the Stanford Invitational to open the year. In both races she set new personal bests.
Schwanz's strong performance helped the women finish ninth overall at the Stanford Invitational, a five-place improvement from 2012.
The men's team is coming off of a fifth-place finish against a strong field at the Stanford Invitational. The Bulldogs received a strong group effort from Kevin Poythress (38th, 25:55), Danny Vartanian (39th, 25:56) and Matt Kwiatkowski (46th, 26:03) to help earn the points necessary for the high team finish in the overall standings.
The solid effort from that trio helped the Fresno State men's team make a four-place improvement from their 2012 effort at the Stanford Invitational.
The Sacramento-area is expecting highs in the mid-80's on Friday with lows in the upper-40's. They are also expecting winds between 15-20 mph.
