WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TWO WEEKS
The Bulldogs will not compete this weekend but will prepare for the WAC Championships in two weeks. The conference meet will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Tulsa, Okla., at 11 a.m. PST. Last year the men took third at the conference meet, finishing behind Rice (1st) and SMU (2nd). The squad returns four of its top seven finishing runners from last season's meet, including Philip Ogilvie (So., Clarksburg, Calif.) who was the top Fresno State runner and WAC Freshman of the Year. The women took sixth a year ago, while Rice was won the women's title as well. Rachel Bauer (Jr., Clovis, Calif.) is the top returning runner from last year's meet, where she finished 23rd with a time of 19:06 in the 5K race. Four of the Bulldogs' seven runners who competed in the WAC Championship from last season will return for the meet in Oklahoma.
FRESNO STATE TO HOST NCAA REGIONALS AT WOODWARD PARK
Fresno State and Woodward Park will host the NCAA District 9 Regionals two weeks following the WAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 11. Woodward Park was the host of last season's WAC Championship and last hosted the regionals in 1998. Last year, the regionals were held in Portland, Ore., where the men placed 12th. Robert Vaca (So., Parlier, Calif.) recorded a time of 33:12 in the 10K run, the best time of any of the returning runners. The women placed 20th as a team, while Bauer was the top finisher with a time of 18:59. Results for the NCAA District 9 Regionals will be available on gobulldogs.com.
MEN FINISH FIFTH, RODDY SIXTH AT CAL POLY INVITATIONAL
The men's cross country team took fifth place at the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif., Saturday. Josh Roddy (So., Manteca, Calif.) finished sixth overall and was the top Fresno State runner with a time of 26:54. Roddy has been the Bulldogs' top runner in each meet this season. Currently, his season best time is 24:30 which he recorded at the Stanislaus Invitational. Once again Ogilvie and Vaca finished consecutively. Ogilvie took 24th and Vaca 25th and were seperated at the finish line by only one second. Cal Poly won the team title and Adam Boothe of Cal Poly took first place with a time of 25:49.
WOMEN FINISH SIXTH AT CAL POLY INVITATIONAL
The women's cross country team took sixth place at the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on Saturday. Michelle June (So., Santa Maria, Calif.) was the team's top finisher as she placed 22nd overall with a time of 19:29 in the 5K race. Kara June (Fr., Santa Maria, Calif.) placed 26th overall and was the second Bulldog to cross the finish line. Bauer was third among Fresno State runners and finished 41st overall with a time of 20:02. Fila Track West placed first and Cal Poly was second.
