BULLDOGS HEAD TO WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Bulldogs will compete this Saturday, Oct. 28 at the WAC Championships in Tulsa, Okla., at 11 a.m. PST.
Last year the men took third at the conference meet, finishing behind Rice (1st) and SMU (2nd). The squad returns four of its top seven finishing runners from last season's meet, including Philip Ogilvie (So., Clarksburg, Calif.) who was the top Fresno State runner and WAC Freshman of the Year. Last year Robert Vaca (So., Parlier, Calif.) finished 14th overall with a time of 26:16. Alex Mason (So., Alemeda, Calif.) and Josh Roddy (So., Manteca, Calif.) finished 16th and 17th respectively. Roddy has recorded times this season that could earn him a top five finish at this season's meet.
Rachel Bauer (Jr., Clovis, Calif.) is the top returning runner from last year's meet, where she finished 23rd with a time of 19:06 in the 5K race. Four of the Bulldogs' seven runners who competed in the WAC Championship from last season will return for the meet in Oklahoma. Jennifer Smith (Jr., Lake of the Pines, Calif.) finished 31st overall with a time of 19:25. Brianna Denley (Sr., Prunedale, Calif.) finished 50th overall with a time of 20:10, however, the Bulldogs will run a 6K race rather than last year's 5,000 meter run.
FRESNO STATE HOSTS NCAA REGIONALS
Fresno State and Woodward Park will host the NCAA District 9 Regionals two weeks following the WAC Championship on Saturday, Nov. 11. Woodward Park was the host of last season's WAC Championships and last hosted the regionals in 1998. Last year, the regionals were held in Portland, Ore., where the men placed 12th. Vaca recorded a time of 33:12 in the 10K run, the best time of any of the returning runners. The women placed 20th as a team, while Bauer was the top finisher with a time of 18:59.
