BULLDOGS TAKE THIRD AT WAC CHAMPIONSHIP IN OKLAHOMA
The men finished third on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the WAC Championship meet in Tulsa, Okla. Last year the men also took third and repeated this year with a strong performance from the team's sophomores. Finishing behind SMU (1st) and UTEP (2nd), the `Dogs scored a team total of 95 points. The squad was led by Roberto Vaca (So., Parlier, Calif.) who finished sixth overall with a time of 25:50, 36 seconds faster than his time at last season's conference meet. Vaca was named to the All-WAC first team. Josh Roddy (So., Manteca, Calif.) came in eighth overall, finishing with a solid time of 26:18. He was followed by Philip Ogilvie (So., Clarksburg, Calif.), last season's WAC Freshman of the Year, who placed 11th with a season-best time of 26:35. Roddy and Ogilvie were named to the All-WAC second team.
BULLDOGS PLACE EIGHTH AT WAC CHAMPIONSHIP IN OKLAHOMA
The women placed eighth as a team at the WAC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Tulsa, Okla. The Bulldogs scored 160 points while TCU took the team championship. The squad was led by Michelle June (So., Santa Maria, Calif.) who placed 21st overall with a time of 19:17, her best time of the season in a 5,000 meter race. Stacy Esquivel (Jr. Visalia, Calif.) and Kara June (Fr., Santa Maria, Calif.) placed 28th and 29th, respectively. Both women turned in their best performances of the season in a 5K race. Brianna Denley (Sr., Prunedale, Calif.) finished fourth among the Bulldogs, recording a season-best time of 20:02 and finishing 36th overall.
BULLDOGS TO HOST NCAA REGIONALS
Fresno State and Woodward Park will host the NCAA District 9 Regionals next week on Saturday, Nov. 11. Woodward Park was the host of last season's WAC Championships and last hosted the regionals in 1998. Last year, the regionals were held in Portland, Ore., where the `Dogs placed 12th. Vaca recorded a time of 33:12 in the 10K run, the best time of any of the returning runners. Last season, the women placed 20th as a team, while Rachel Bauer (Jr., Clovis, Calif.) was the top finisher with a time of 18:59.
