Cross Country Heads To NCAA West Regional

    FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's and women's cross country teams head to Eugene, Ore. on Saturday to participate in the NCAA West Regional, hosted by the University of Oregon at the Springfield Country Club.

    The women's 6k race begins at 9:45 a.m., while the men's 10k race begins at 10:45 a.m.

    Last season the men's team finished 17th out of 28 teams in the NCAA West Regional. The women did not compete as a complete team last season, having one individual runner in the race.

    WAC Championship Recap
    Fresno State men's freshman cross country runner Olivier Collin won the WAC Individual Title at the WAC Championship. The Fresno State men's team finished fourth overall at the WAC Championship, while the women's team finished fifth overall.

    Collin finished the men's 8k race in a time of 24:34.21. Following the race, Collin was named the WAC Athlete of the Year, the WAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-WAC. Collin is the first runner at Fresno State to win the WAC individual title since 1992. The men's team also had strong performances by freshman Olivier Bernard and sophomore Danny Vartanian, who each were named Second Team All-WAC. Bernard finished the race in a time of 25:09.40 and Vartanian finished in 25:17.87.

    The women's team was led by Marrijtje Molenhuis, who finished the 5k race in 18:02.38. Molenhuis was named Second Team All-WAC following the race. Pamela Cruz finished 21st overall for the Bulldogs in a time of 18:21.46 and Saylah Barserian finished 25th in a time of 18:35.16.
