    Pat Waer begins his first year as the volunteer assistant coach at Fresno State in 2006. His primary duties include serving as the team's first base coach and outfield instructor. He also assists head coach Mike Batesole with the infielders.

    Waer joins the Bulldogs with plenty of experience with Central Valley baseball. He has spent the last nine years coaching high school baseball in the valley, most recently at Central High School where he coached from 2002-2005. During that time, he was the coach of current Fresno State pitcher Eddie Romero, and recorded a 57-28-1 record, which was good for a .662 winning percentage. In addition, while at Central, Waer was named thee 2004 Tri-River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, and received the 100 victory-club award from the California Baseball Coaches Association. In addition, Waer was selected to be part of the coaching staff for the 2003 City/Country All-Star game.

    Before taking the helm at Central High School, Waer was the coach at Dinuba High School from 1998-2002, where he recorded a 63-52 record. Between both schools, his squads made 5 playoff appearances and reached the CIF semifinals three times. Before his experience coaching high school, Waer also spent two years as the volunteer assistant at Reedley College.

    Beginning his playing career at Clovis West High School, Waer moved to Spokane, Wash. and spent two years at Mead High School, where the team was the Washington State runner-up in 1989. After spending two seasons at Bakersfield College, Waer then transferred to Washington State, where he hit .303 with 2 home runs and 26 RBI as a senior while catching and playing outfield.

    Waer earned his B.A in history from Washington State in 1995 before receiving a master's degree in Education from National University in Fresno. He also has a California teaching credential in the Social Sciences. He and his wife, Natalie, have a son, Jackson Charles.
