FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman outfielder Danny Dorn went 5-for-5 with a homer, three doubles, a single and four RBIs to help lead No. 7 Cal State Fullerton to a 10-1 victory over Fresno State Saturday at Beiden Field. The Titans improved to 5-0 while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-2. Dorn clubbed a three-run round tripper off Fresno State starter Matt Garza (1-1) to cap a five-run first inning for the Titans. For the second straight game, CSF senior infielder Justin Smyres led off the contest with a home run for his third round tripper of the year. Junior outfielder Kyle Boyer added an RBI single to cap the Titans' scoring in the first. In the ninth, Fresno State sophomore infielder Brandon Esparza hit a pinch-hit RBI single to account for the Bulldog scoring. The run snapped a streak of 18 consecutive scoreless innings for Fresno State dating back to the ninth inning of the season opener at UC Irvine. The school record is 22 set back in 1975.
The Titans and Bulldogs wrap up the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. CSF righty Dustin Miller (1-0, 1.50) is scheduled to oppose Fresno State right-hander Cody Smith (1-0, 0.00).
