Baseball Swept By No. 7 Cal State Fullerton

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior outfielder Kyle Boyer laced a two-run single with one out in the ninth inning to snap a 4-4 tie and spark a six-run inning as seventh-ranked Cal State Fullerton defeated Fresno State 10-4 Sunday at Beiden Field. The win clinched a series sweep for the Titans. The three-game sweep was the third in the last four meetings for CSF against the Bulldogs. Cal State Fullerton improved to 6-0 while Fresno State dropped to 1-3. Boyer led the Titans offensively going 3-for-5 with two singles, a double, 4 RBIs and two stolen bases. Sophomore Ronnie Prettyman led off the ninth with a single to center off Bulldog senior right-hander Josh Glynn (0-1). After a fly out to right by junior outfielder Shane Costa, junior infielder Richie Burgos doubled off the right field wall placing runners at second and third for Boyer. Boyer also added a two-run double in a three-run fifth for the Titans. Junior righty Chad Cordero (1-0) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to close out the game and earn the victory. The Titans opened the scoring in the first on a sacrifice fly by Burgos off Fresno State starter Cody Smith. The Bulldogs knotted the game at one on a solo homer in the second inning by senior infielder Brian Pierce off Fullerton starter Dustin Miller. Fresno State was led at the plate by junior infielder Casey McGehee who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs including a game-tying two-run single in a three-run fifth.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday when they open a three-game series with No. 3 Stanford. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
