FRESNO, Calif.-- Pete Beiden Field was filled with laughter and smiles on the sunny Saturday afternoon for the Bulldog's annual Alumni game. Fresno State's current baseball team brought home the 7-4 win against the alumni.
The afternoon started off as an average game until the alumni decided to throw a twist in it by jokingly running out onto the field to give the second base umpire a hard time.
Gene Escat led the top of the fourth with his first-ever base hit after never having an at bat during his college career, giving the crowd a good laugh.
"It's good to have the older guys back here again having some fun and getting some laughter in the game," said home run derby winner Aaron Judge.
In the seventh, the alumni sent out all of the 28-players from the dugout to play on the field. Nick Moresi then took over as the home plate umpire and called every pitch a strike.
The 'Dogs are excited for the 2013 season to start up this coming Friday against UCSB. "It will be our inaugural season in the Mountain West Conference and I know everyone is excited for that," said head coach Mike Batesole at the end of the alumni game.
Fresno State's season kicks off next Friday against UC Santa Barbara at 6:35 p.m. Season tickets are available through the Bulldog Ticket Office by calling 559-278-DOGS or visiting www.gobulldogs.com.
