Baseball Swept by No. 11 Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Stanford senior right-hander Ryan McCally allowed two runs on six hits in a complete game effort as the eleventh-ranked Cardinal defeated Fresno State 7-2 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep. The Cardinal improved to 6-5 while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-6, losing their sixth in a row. McCally (1-1) retired 17 straight batters at one point and did not allow a base runner from the fourth thru the eighth innings. McCally walked none and struck out five. Fresno State starter Matt Garza (1-2) opened the game retiring the first eight batters before issuing a walk with two outs in the third to designated hitter John Hester. Outfielder Sam Fuld followed with an RBI triple to break the scoreless tie. Stanford added two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to pace itself to a 7-0 lead. Jed Lowrie went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs including a two-run double in the fifth. Senior outfielder Scott Beshears led the Bulldogs at the plate going 2-for-4 including his first homer of the year.
