Baseball Defeats UC Irvine, 9-5

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State junior infielder Casey McGehee went 3-for-5 including a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning to help lead the Bulldogs to a 9-5 victory over UC Irvine and snap a six-game losing streak Tuesday at Beiden Field. The Bulldogs improved to 2-6 while the Anteaters fell to 2-6. McGehee had three singles on the night and also scored a run in Fresno State's six-run fifth that sent ten men to the plate. In the fifth, the Bulldogs set a season high for runs and hits (four) in an inning. McGehee also was one of five Bulldogs to record multi-hit efforts for the game and the first to tally three hits in a contest this season. UC Irvine held a 3-0 lead after two innings on the strength of a bases loaded hit by pitch in the first and a Mark Wagner RBI single in the second coupled with a balk by Fresno State starter Bryan Wolfenbarger. Wagner was 2-for-4 with two singles to lead the Anteaters.The Bulldogs knotted the game at 3-3 on an RBI single by junior infielder Chris Patrick to cap a two-run fourth. Sophomore left-hander Gil Infante (1-0) tossed three perfect innings in relief to earn his first collegiate victory. Fresno State senior right-hander Josh Glynn recorded the final two outs of the game to notch his first save of the season. UCI righty Kris Krise (1-1) was touched for five of the Bulldogs' six runs in the fifth inning to pick up the loss.
