FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team finished opening weekend with a thrilling 5-4 win over Oregon State. Catcher Austin Wynns drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The No. 28 Bulldogs are 3-0 this season.

Fresno State pitching continued to dominate on the mound striking out eight batters and allowing zero earned runs. The Dogs have allowed five earned runs in three games and have team ERA of 1.67. The Bulldogs have a combined total of 31 strikeouts.

Freshman Aaron Judge had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI. The left fielder hit a trio of singles.

The Beavers crossed home plate first with an unearned run in the first inning. OSU took an early 1-0 lead.

With a runner on first base, Judge singled to right field in the second inning. An error by the right fielder allowed Judge to advance to third base and Andy Qualls to score on the play tying the game 1-1.

Senior Danny Muno came to the plate with runners on the corners and delivered a base clearing double down the left field line. The Dogs took the lead 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

Junior Tom Harlan got the start on the mound for the Bulldogs, the second of his career. The lefty fanned back-to-back batters to end the third inning.

Harlan struck out a career-high four batters in a career-high five and two-third innings pitched.

Wynns led off the sixth inning with a single to left field. Judge recorded his third hit of the game and drove in Wynns increasing the Dogs lead 4-1.

Junior Cody Kendall came out of the bullpen Monday afternoon. He threw three and third innings of relief and struck out four batters. Kendall earned the win and is 1-0 on the mound in 2011.



The Beavers scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning cutting the Bulldogs lead to 4-3.

The Dogs defended a bunt situation perfectly in the eighth inning that helped preserve the Bulldogs one run lead.

Oregon State tied game 4-4 in the ninth inning after scoring a run.

In the ninth inning, Gowens reached base after hitting a single to left center. Jordan Ribera walked moving Gowens into scoring position. Wynns hit the game-winning RBI with a single through the left side allowing Gowens to cross home plate.

The Dogs beat Oregon State 5-4 and are 3-0 on the season.
