Bulldogs Quiet Waves

FRESNO, Calif. - A pair of home runs from Aaron Judge and Dusty Robinson propelled the Fresno State baseball team to a 7-3 win over Pepperdine Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs remain undefeated and are 4-0 so far this season.
Robinson, a Preseason All-WAC selection, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Judge added a pair of RBIs. After four games, the freshman is hitting .429 with a team-high five RBIs. Fresno State tallied six hits on the day.
The Bulldogs got another solid outing from starter Derek Benny, who improved to 2-0 on the hill. The pitching staff recorded a combined five strikeouts.
Robinson gave the Dogs a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single up the middle.
The Bulldogs defense turned two double plays in the first two innings of the game and have a total of four on the year.
In the sixth inning, the Waves scored two runs after hitting a two-run home run and tied the game 2-2.
The Dogs answered in the bottom of the sixth inning taking back their lead 3-2. Robinson drove in his second run of the game with a home run over the left field wall.
Gowens stepped to the plate with two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning. The center fielder bunted the runners over to second and third base, respectively. Weber hit a sacrifice fly allowing a runner to score and increasing the Dogs lead 4-2.
Benny threw five scoreless innings before allowing two runs. The junior struck out two batters in his second outing of the year. He has allowed a total of three runs in two games and has an ERA of 2.25.
Robinson led off the eighth inning reaching base on an error and a wild pitch put the junior outfielder in scoring position. Judge hit a home run for the first time in his career. The two-run home run extended the Dogs lead to 6-2 over the Waves.
The eighth inning continued with an RBI double from senior Danny Muno and gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the day, 7-2.
Charlie Robertson came out of the bullpen striking out three batters. The junior quieted the Pepperdine bats to one hit and one unearned run in two innings of work.
Pepperdine rallied in the top of the ninth for one run, but the Bulldogs won 7-3.
The Bulldogs conclude the series against Pepperdine tomorrow with doubleheader starting at 1:05 p.m.
