Bakersfield, Calif.- The Fresno State baseball team fell to CSU Bakersfield 5-3 on Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

The ’Dogs jumped out early for the second consecutive game by posting two runs in the first inning to take control early with RHP Jordan Brink on the mound. Fresno State added one more in the top of the fifth to take command 3-0 over the Roadrunners.

Brink, in his first career start, kept CSUB scoreless through the first four innings before surrendering a run in the fifth. Brink went 4.1 innings in his debut as a starter, striking out seven batters swinging behind a vicious fastball.

The fifth inning saw two relievers enter the game, Connor Chase and Jake Shull. Each were charged with a run in the inning as the ‘Runners tied the game at three through five innings.

CSUB tacked on a run in the sixth to take the lead and another in the eighth inning for insurance. The ‘Runners posted five unanswered runs in all after the ‘Dogs opened up the game with a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs are now 1-6 on the season.

Despite the ’Dogs struggles on the mound to keep runs off the board in the latter innings, the pitching staff posted a season-high 13 strikeouts in the team’s fourth consecutive road game.

Behind the plate, the one through four batters all posted hits while the rest of the order went without one. Lead-off man, Jordan Luplow went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to add to his team-best seven runs scored on the season.

The ‘Dogs return home Friday as the USC Trojans come to visit Beiden Field for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Tickets are still available through GoBulldogs.com, by calling 278-DOGS or by visiting the ticket office located at the south entrance of Bulldog Stadium.
