FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team lost 9-1 to USC on Friday night at Beiden Field in the first game of a weekend series.

It was a pitchers' duel for the first four innings. Fresno State starter William Munro tossed four scoreless frames prior to giving up three to USC in the top of the fifth.

Senior Trent Garrison doubled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. He later scored on freshman designated hitter Taylor Ward's single to right, to get the `Dogs on the scoreboard. Both Garrison and Ward went 2-for-4 on the evening, accounting for half of Fresno State's hits.

Munro (1-1) took the loss while USC's Bobby Wheatley (1-1) earned the victory.

The Trojans improved to 6-3 while the Bulldogs fell to 1-7 on the season.

The `Dogs and Trojans will resume the series Saturday evening at 6:35 p.m. at Beiden Field.
