    SAN DIEGO - The Fresno State baseball team shutout Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the Aztec Invitational. The Bulldogs won, 5-0 and limited the Titans to four hits. The `Dogs are 7-6 on the season.

    Fresno State threw four shutouts last season and the last shutout was against San Jose State on April 24, 2009 and senior Matt Morse was on the mound.

    The bats were silent through the first six innings. The Bulldogs had a hit in the first inning and the Titans had two hits in the score book.

    Finally, in the seventh inning the pitcher's duel came to an end with a three-run home run from sophomore Dusty Robinson. The center fielder has two home runs on the year.

    Fresno State recorded seven hits in the last three innings of the game and a total of eight on the afternoon.

    The last time the Bulldogs faced the Titans was in 2007 at the Fullerton Regional and the `Dogs lost to the Titans in the championship game.

    Junior Bobby Coyle had the first hit of the day for Fresno State with a single to right field.

    Catcher Trent Garrison caught the lead runner attempting to steal third base in the first inning.

    Morse earned the starting nod from head coach Mike Batesole. The right-hander struck out back-to-back batters to retire the second inning.

    Morse sat six consecutive Titan batters down in order in top of the third and fourth innings. He threw the complete game shutout and struck out three batters.

    Morse has a 2-1 record with an ERA of 3.91 and in his career has two complete game shutouts.

    The pitcher's duel continued heading into the sixth inning. The Bulldogs defense has caused the Titans to leave six runners stranded, four of which was in scoring position.

     

     

    Third baseman Garrett Weber got the second hit of the game for the `Dogs with his single to left field in the seventh inning. Coyle reached first base on error moving Weber to second base. A wild pitch allowed the runners to advance to second and third base.

    With a full count, Robinson smashed the ball over the left field fence breaking the tie and giving the Bulldogs the lead, 3-0.

    In the eighth inning, Danny Muno singled to left center field. Weber singled up the middle advancing Muno to second base. Coyle knocked a base hit through the right side moving Weber to second base and bringing home Muno. Fresno State extended its lead, 4-0.

    Jordan Ribera hit a solo shot over the right field wall increasing the `Dogs lead, 5-0. The junior has seven home runs in 2010, which is the most on the team.

    The Bulldogs continue the Aztec Invitational March 12 against San Francisco.
