FRESNO, Calif. - The Utes of Utah kept playing the best baseball of the 30th Annual Pepsi Johnny Quik Classic, held on the Fresno State campus. Utah ran its tournament record to 3-1 with an 11-2 win over Indiana this afternoon.
The Utes got a stellar pitching performance from starting pitcher Brian Budrow, who threw eight strong innings allowing just seven hits and two earned runs. Budrow had 12 strikeouts in the game.
Utah's offens, which accounted for 15 hits in the game, scored three runs in three different innings, the fourth fifth and seventh. Cooper Blanc hit a three-run homerun in the fourth inning and added a two-run blast an inning later. He finished with three hits on the day.
Utah will play host Fresno State on Friday night at Pete Beiden Field. The Hoosiers fell to 2-2 in the round-robin style tournament and will play Portland Friday at 10 a.m. PT.
The 30th Annual Pepsi Johnny Quik concludes Saturday.
