FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State picked up its eighth win of the season Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs (8-9) topped UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) 3-2 on the road to split the series with the Gauchos.

Freshman Jordan Brink led the team with two hits. He finished 2-for-3 with a run on the day.

UCSB scored first on a single to right in the second inning. The Gauchos held onto the lead until the Bulldogs responded in the top of the fifth.

Junior Austin Wynns led off with a walk and moved to second on a single to center by Brink. With one out on the board, sophomore Jake Alvarez singled just past the third baseman, scoring Wynns and tying the game at 1-all.

Senior Patrick Hutcheson laid a great sacrifice bunt down the third base line to move Brink and Alvarez into scoring position. Freshman Chris Mariscal then hit a single through the right side on a 1-2 count that easily scored Brink for the go-ahead run.

Alvarez hustled around from second and slid under the tag at home for his second run of the season to give the 'Dogs the 3-1 lead. The next batter lined out to third on the first pitch to end the inning.

Fresno State starter Garrett Mundell was replaced by sophomore Tyler Stirewalt before the start of the fifth. Mundell struck out two in his 4.0 innings pitched.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Gauchos put another run across to pull within one.

Junior Justin Haley came in to take over on the mound for junior J.D. Salles. With a full count and bases loaded, Bryce Tafelski hit it back to Haley, who then tossed it to first to get the 'Dogs out of the jam.

Senior Taylor Garrison came in to close in the bottom of the ninth. The Gauchos (7-9) went three-up, three-down to end the game and Stirewalt earned his first collegiate win. The Bulldogs are 49-33 all-time against UCSB.
