FRESNO, Calif. - On a Tuesday night at Beiden Field the Fresno State (10-13) Bulldogs took down the Iowa (3-3) Hawkeyes in the second game of the series by a score of 14-6.
To get the ball rolling in the top of the first inning the Iowa Hawkeye's hit back-to-back home runs to lead 2-0. The next two batters ended the inning on a strikeout swinging and a strikeout looking.
Fresno State answered right in the top of the first inning when Steve Susdorf doubled to left field bringing in two runs to tie the game up at two a piece. The Bulldogs scored the last run of the inning when Alan Ahmady singled to left field brining in Susdorf.
With two outs in the top of the third inning Iowa scored its third run of the game on a triple from Burmester brining in Freie all the way from first base. The last out was recorded on a groundout.
With two outs for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the third inning Fresno State scored three more runs to take a 6-3 lead. Two runs scored on a double from Todd Sandell and one run scored on a single up the middle from Ryan Overaland.
To put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth inning Fresno State scored four runs at 10-4. One run came on a single from Susdorf bringing in Wetzel from third after he hit a triple in his prior at bat. Fresno State brought in three runs on an Alan Ahmady home run to left field. It was Ahmady's first collegiate home run.
The Bulldogs scored their last three runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on one hit and two errors at 13-4.
Iowa did score two more runs in the top of the eighth inning on three hits for a 13-6 final.
Fresno State will be at home for the next four days as they head into the Pepsi-Johnny Quik Classic to take on Iowa and Dallas Baptist. The first game will feature Fresno State taking on Iowa in a 6:05 p.m. contest.
