March 23, 2003
FRESNO, Calif. - Minnesota pounded out 15 hits including three home runs en route to a 14-1 victory over Fresno State Sunday at Beiden Field to salvage the final game of the three-game series. The Bulldogs had their season high nine-game winning streak snapped and fell to 14-13 while the Golden Gophers halted a five game losing skid to even their record at 10-10. Infielder David Roach hit the first of Minnesota's three homers in the first inning with a three-run blast to right field to give the Golden Gophers a 3-0 lead they would never relinquish. Roach went 2-for-3 with three RBI and was one of three Golden Gophers with multi-hit efforts. Infielders Scott Welch (2-for-3) and David Hrncirik (2-for-3) rounded out the group. Minnesota catcher Gary Dick added a two-run homer in the fourth and Welch clubbed a solo homer in the fifth. UM lefty Glen Perkins (1-1) scattered one run on three hits while striking out six over five innings in relief to earn his first victory of the season. Fresno State starter Josh Glynn (0-4) was touched for five runs on five hits over 3 1/3 innings to pick up his fourth loss of the season. Fresno State freshman outfielder Chase Moore hit his team high tying fourth home run of the season in the eighth inning to account for the Bulldogs' run.
