SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team fell victim to a 1-0 shutout delivered by San Diego State Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the loss, the Aztecs won the series two games to one.
For the first time in the three-game series the Aztecs scored the game's first run, it did come until the sixth inning, but it was all the Aztecs would need.
Bulldogs' starter Jimmy Lambert worked a shutout until SDSU managed to put together back-to-back base hits against two outs in the sixth. Tim Zier singled to right center and Ty France connected for a double to the same gap, but France's grounded into the wall allowing the extra base and enough time for Zier to score.
Lambert (1-2) was charged with the loss despite a solid 6.0 inning, five hit, one earned run outing. He struck out three and walked two.
San Diego State starter Mark Seyler earned the win, working 7.2 innings for a three hit, eight strikeout performance. Seyler issued his first walk of the game in the eighth to Austin Guibor and was immediately pulled in favor of Aztec closer Michael Cederoth.
Cederoth earned his 11th save of the season while Seyler (5-2) picked up the win.
Fresno State (16-12, 6-6 MW) returns home to begin a five-game homestand, starting with Pacific on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Beiden Field.
