    SAN JOSE, Calif. - The No. 9 Fresno State baseball team won its 22nd game of the season on Sunday after beating San Jose State 5-3. The Bulldogs split the series 2-2 in the first weekend of Western Athletic Conference play and have an overall mark of 22-5 on the season.

    The final game of the series was another battle on the mound for both pitchers, but the Dogs broke away with the lead after Preseason All-WAC first baseman Jordan Ribera hit a three-run home run. Fresno State hit a total of two home runs on Sunday. The other home run came from junior Dusty Robinson, who leads the WAC with eight this season.

    Eight Bulldogs recorded a hit against San Jose State. Robinson was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Ribera tallied a team-high three RBIs.

    The Spartans loaded up the bases early in the game in the first inning. The Bulldogs turned a pair to retire the side and keep the game tied 0-0.

    In the top of the second inning, designated hitter Kenny Wise slid into second base for the first hit of the game for the bulldogs.

    Robinson hit his second home run of the weekend over the center field wall to give the Dogs the lead 1-0 in the fourth inning. The junior launched his eighth home run of their over 390 feet sign on the center field wall.

    San Jose State answered with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the fourth inning taking the lead 2-1.

    Tom Harlan made his seventh start of the year against San Jose State on Sunday. The junior struck out one Spartan batter and has a total of 23 on the year.

    In the top of the fifth inning, second baseman Pat Hutcheson singled to left center field. The junior stole second base, it was his second stolen base of the game and fifth of the season. Senior Garrett Weber drove Hutcheson home with a single to left field tying the game 2-2.

     

     

    Fresno State turned its second double play of the game in the fifth inning. The Dogs have fielded 29 double plays in 2011.

    Junior Cody Kendall took over on the mound in the sixth inning. He got out of a bases loaded jam by striking out the final batter to retire the side and not letting a run score. Kendall earned the win and has a 4-0 record. He struck out three batters in two and two-thirds innings of relief.

    In the seventh inning, senior Danny Muno singled to left field to leadoff. Robinson was hit by a pitch to reach base and move Muno to second. With two outs, Ribera crushed his second home run of the season to left field adding three runs and giving the Bulldogs the lead 5-2.

    The Dogs threatened again in the top of the eighth inning. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with an error, walk and hit by a pitch, but were not able to bring any runners home before the Spartans retired the side.

    Robinson led off the ninth inning with a bunt single down the left field line. The outfielder stole second base for the Bulldogs third stolen base of the game.

    Junior Charlie Robertson came into close in the ninth inning. He recorded his 10th save of the season and needs four more to break the single season record currently held by Brandon Burke.

    The Bulldogs won the final game of the series 5-3 over San Jose State.
