SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- - Gavin Hedstrom had a season high three hits but it wasn't enough as the Fresno State baseball team dropped a 10-7 non-conference game at Cal Poly on Tuesday. The loss drops Fresno State to 20-16 and Cal Poly improved to 14-18.
Jake Floethe suffered the loss while Mark DeVincenzi earned his first win of the season.
After falling behind 4-0 after two innings, the Bulldogs came back and scored five runs in the third inning to take a 5-4 lead. With one out Detwiler reached on an infield single and Trent Soares followed with a single to right field. Danny Muno then hit a shot off the foot of Mustang pitcher Brian Grening to load the bases.
Hedstrom then hit a two-RBI single to right field, plating Soares and Detwiler. With two outs, Susdorf blasted a two-RBI double to right-center and Alan Ahmady followed with a RBI double to left-center that scored Susdorf to give the Dogs the 5-4 lead.
Cal Poly then scored five in the bottom of the third to retake the lead at 9-5. Dewiler hit a homerun in the fourth to cut the deficit to 9-6 but the Mustangs added a run in the bottom half of the inning to take a 10-6 lead.
The Bulldogs return to the field on Friday when they begin a four-game series at New Mexico State. First pitch on Friday is set for 5:05 p.m.
