Poytress Throws Another Complete Game

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior Josh Poytress' second straight complete game fueled the No. 13 Bulldogs to an 8-1 victory over Nevada. The Fresno State baseball team has an overall mark of 24-5 and is 4-2 in the WAC.
Poytress struck out a career-high nine batters in his third start of the season. He is 4-0 on the mound in 2011 and has an ERA of 2.27.
The Bulldogs out hit the Wolf Pack 12-7 in the first game of the doubleheader. Senior Danny Muno recorded a fourth of the Dogs hits after going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Freshman Aaron Judge and sophomore Austin Wynns also had a multiple hit game each recording two hits.
The Dogs have rallied for runs in the late innings of the first two games against Nevada. Fresno State has scored 10 of its 17 runs of the series in its last at-bat of each game.
Wynns ended the top of the third inning by picking a Nevada runner off at first base. He then picked up the bat in the bottom half of the inning and led off with a single to center field. Muno launched his third home run of the season well over the fence in right field to give the Bulldogs the lead, 2-0.
Poytress kept the Wolf Pack offense at bay through the first four innings. He had three early strikeouts and stranded five Nevada runners in four innings. He finished the game allowing seven hits and zero earned runs.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, designated hitter Kenny Wise singled up the middle. Junior Brennan Gowens followed with a walk to put two runners on base for the Dogs with one out. Judge ripped a double to center field recording two RBIs and doubling the Bulldogs lead 4-0 over Nevada.
Judge recorded his second hit and double of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wynns hit a base knock to left fielding bringing Judge home and the Dogs lead increased to 5-0 over the Wolf Pack.
The two out rally continued as Pat Hutcheson hit an RBI double down the left field line allowing two runs to score. Muno singled bringing the third run of the inning and the Dogs lead 8-0.
Nevada scored one unearned run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Bulldogs went on to win the second game of the series 8-1.
