Reno, Nev. - The Fresno State offense exploded for a Mountain West season-high 20 runs Thursday night to propel the Bulldogs to a 20-10 win over Nevada at Peccole Park. With the win, the 'Dogs snap a four-game skid and improve to 19-19 overall and 8-11 in MW play while Nevada drops to 19-16 and 11-8 in conference action.
The 20-run output was the most runs a Bulldog team scored since defeating New Mexico State 21-11 on May 7, 2010, a game also on the road.
The Bulldogs grabbed a hold of the game and took all its momentum with an eight-run fourth inning that saw 13 at bats. The eight runs were the highest run total the Bulldogs produced in a single inning all season and was the beginning to 19 unanswered runs the Bulldogs would plate en route to taking a commanding 20-3 lead. Fresno State tacked on six runs in the sixth and five more in seventh before the Wolf Pack plated four in the eighth and another three in the ninth.
12 different Bulldogs registered a hit while seven recorded multiple hits. Manny Argomaniz led all hitters with three hits as he went 3-for-4 with two walks, three runs and three RBIs.
Brody Russell doubled twice and tallied a game-high and season-best four RBIs.
Fresno State homered twice in the onslaught. Chris Mariscal lifted the first pitch of the seventh inning over the left-center fence. On the very next at-bat Austin Guibor recorded his first career home run.
Dillon Houser (3-0) picked up the win in 1.2 innings of scoreless relief work while Barry TImko (4-2) was charged with the loss.
The series resumes Friday at 6 p.m. from Peccole Park. The series finale is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
