Dogs Fall to Cal Poly

SAN Luis Obispo, Calif. - Junior Dusty Robinson hit home run No. nine at Baggett Stadium against Cal Poly. The Bulldogs lost the midweek game to the Mustangs 5-4. The Dogs are 25-6 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
Fresno State recorded seven hits against the Mustangs with senior Danny Muno going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Robinson led the team with two RBIs. The pitching staff struck out a total of six Cal poly batters. Junior Taylor Garrison had three of the six strikeouts.
Garrett Weber fielded a ground ball in the second inning and turned around to throw the Cal Poly runner out at home preserving the tied ball game.
Tom Harlan made his eighth start Tuesday night against the Mustangs. He sat the Cal Poly batters down in order with three straight ground outs to third base.
In the third inning, Austin Wynns recorded a single up the middle in his first appearance at the plate. Pinch hitter Andy Qualls bunted Wynns into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Muno hit a single to shallow right fielding bringing in Wynns and the Dogs lead 1-0.
The third inning continued as Muno stole second and third base. The third baseman has 11 stolen bases on the year. He scored on an error increasing the Dogs lead 2-0.
J.D. Salles hurled three scoreless innings and struck out one batter. The right-hander allowed only two hits. He has six appearances on the season and has thrown a total of 12.1 innings of relief in 2011.
The Bulldogs fielded a 1-4-3 double play to end the fourth inning. The Dogs have turned 31 double plays in 31 games.
Derek Benny threw one inning of relief allowing one hit. He struck out one Mustang batter and has a total of 13 strikeouts on the year.
In the top of the sixth inning, Weber doubled off the center field wall. Home run leader Robinson launched his ninth long ball of the season over the left field wall extending the Dogs lead 4-0. The junior leads the team and Western Athletic Conference in homers.
Garrison took over on the mound in the bottom of the sixth inning and struck out the side.
Cal Poly scored a run in the seventh inning off an RBI double from J.J. Thompson. The Mustangs trailed the Dogs 4-1.
Wynns picked off a runner at first base in the seventh inning. He has picked off three runners this season.
The Mustangs rallied for four runs in the eighth inning and hung on to beat the Bulldogs, 5-4.
