SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The No. 12 Fresno State baseball team got off to a fast start in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader scoring six early runs. The Bulldogs won the final game of the series 12-4 over Sacramento State. The Dogs improve to 28-7 overall record and 8-3 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Bulldogs hit three home runs against the Hornets. Jordan Ribera, Dusty Robinson and Justin Charles all went yard at John Smith Field. The Dogs tallied 14 hits in the series finale. Charles, Robinson, Ribera and Kenny Wise all recorded two hits in the second game of the day.
Senior Danny Muno led off with a double to get the game started for the Bulldogs. Robinson hit a jack off the parking structure in left field giving the Dogs the lead 2-0. The junior leads the team and league in homers with 10.
Ribera followed up with another home run increasing the Bulldogs lead to 3-0 over the Hornets. Outfielder Brennan Gowens earned a walk to continue the inning. Designated hitter Kenny Wise doubled down the right field line allowing Gowens to score as the Dogs lead grew to 4-0.
Freshman Aaron Judge extended the inning with his first career triple and Wise scored on the play. Catcher Austin Wynns bunted in the final run of the inning as the Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
Sacramento State answered in the bottom of the second inning with three runs trailing the Bulldogs 6-3.
Junior Tom Harlan started the final game of the series and earned his ninth start of the year. The lefty struck out three in six and third innings of work. Harlan threw five scoreless innings en route to his fourth win on the mound.
In the top of the third inning, the Bulldogs recorded back-to-back singles from Gowens and Wise.
Charles hit his first career home run in the top of the fourth inning increasing the Dogs lead 7-3.
Freshman Jake Alvarez followed with a double to right field as the fourth inning continued. Senior Garrett Weber bunted down the third base line to put Bulldog runners on the corners. Weber advances to third base and Alvarez scores on a throwing error by the Hornet pitcher as the Bulldogs lead 8-3.
The fourth inning was extended as Robinson headed to first base after getting hit by a pitch and stole second base. Ribera hit a double down the first base line driving in two runs and the Bulldogs lead grew 10-3. Ribera advanced to third base on a sacrifice hit from Gowens.
Ribera added the fifth run of the fourth inning as the Dogs lead increased, 11-3, after scoring on an error by the Hornets first baseman.
In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs turned a 4-6-3 double play. Fresno State fielded two double plays in the night cap and has 36 this season.
Right-hander Cody Kendall took over on the hill in the bottom of the seventh inning. The junior struck out one in one scoreless inning of relief.
The Hornets scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning and trail the Bulldogs 11-4.
In the eighth inning, Weber reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Robinson doubled down the left field line allowing Weber to score and the Dogs lead increased 12-4.
Freshman Will Anderson made his second appearance of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning. He struck out one batter in a scoreless inning of relief.
The Bulldogs won the final game 12-4 over Sacramento State. Fresno State won the series improving to 8-3 in WAC play.
