FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State offense was unstoppable Saturday night and amassed 15 hits, nine of which came in the fourth and fifth innings. The Bulldogs won the final game of the series 15-7 over Dallas Baptist. The `Dogs have an overall record of 26-19 this season.
Sophomore Brennan Gowens sparked the offense in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs went on to score 11 runs on nine hits in the fourth and fifth innings sealing the win and taking the series two games to one.
Outfielder Dusty Robinson had a big night at the plate recording four hits in five at-bats. He also recorded a team-high five RBIs and hit his ninth home run of the season.
Starting pitcher Charlie Robertson threw two hitless innings and sat down the batters in order in the second inning. The sophomore threw four and two thirds innings.
The pitcher's duel ended in the third inning when Dallas Baptist scored three unearned runs taking the lead, 3-0.
The Bulldogs answered with a home run to left field from Bobby Coyle cutting the Patriots lead, 3-1.
Gowens started the fourth inning rally with a single to right field. He reached third base on a fielding error by the right fielder. Shortstop Garrett Weber brought Gowens home with a double and the `Dogs trail, 3-2.
Designated hitter Kenny Wise struck out but reached on a wild pitch. Freshman Kaohu Gaspar walked to load the bases. Second baseman Danny Muno singled through the right side allowing two runners to score giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the game, 4-3.
Robinson hit a single through the left side and the `Dogs tacked on another run.
Coyle hit a double to bringing in two more Bulldogs extending their lead, 7-3
The Patriots answered with four runs in the fifth inning tying the game, 7-7.
Bonesteele took over for Robertson in the fifth inning and struck out one of two batters he faced. He also earned his first win of the season and is 1-0.
Sophomore Trent Garrison led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single down thSe right field line. Wise walked moving Garrison to second base. Gaspar loaded the bases with his second walk of the evening. Muno grounded out at first base, but allowed the go ahead run to cross home plate.
The `Dogs added two runs with a single up the middle from Robinson and the `Dogs lead, 10-7.
Back-to-back singles from Coyle and Jordan Ribera allowed two more runs to score and the Bulldogs took a 12-7 lead into the sixth inning.
In the sixth inning, Muno grounded out allowing a runner to score. Robinson added another two runs with a home run over the left field wall and Fresno State leads 15-7.
Fresno State won 15-7 taking the final game of the series.
