FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team hammered UC Davis early and often en route to a smashing 11-4 victory over the Aggies on Wednesday evening at Beiden Field.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in responding to an early 1-0 deficit.

Patrick Hutcheson's second-inning two-run blast over the right-centerfield fence chased UC Davis starter Evan Wolf from the game to the tune of boy-band favorite Bye, Bye, Bye playing over the stadium sound system. It was Hutcheson's third homer of the year, struck in nearly the same location as his previous two bombs.

Senior designated hitter Kenneth Wise kissed one good-bye as well in the fourth just off the right-field foul pole.

Combined with five doubles, the Bulldogs tallied seven extra-base hits in the win. Eight of nine starters hit safely, while five had multi-hit games.

"We had five RBIs with two strikes," said head coach Mike Batesole. "When it comes down to it, you have win the two-strike, two-out battle if you want to be a champion"

Fresno State wasn't all about the long ball, though. The `Dogs also manufactured runs during the rout with three sacrifice flies from Hutcheson, Wise and Trent Garrison.

Senior Gene Escat struck out the side in the seventh, maintaining a perfect 0.00 ERA in nine appearances. The Fresno State pitching staff limited UC Davis to four runs on 10 hits, while striking out 12.

"Gene's been pitching great; Cody has been pitching great," Batesole said. "Those three guys [including Taylor Garrison] at the end--they're going on probably three or four weeks like that and have been really solid. We need that; we have to get ourselves into position to where that matters and we've got some good arms at the back of the bullpen that can come in and do what they did today."

Sophomore Aaron Judge made a spectacular, diving catch in left-center and overall the Bulldogs did not commit an error.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they host Sacramento State at 6:05 p.m.
