LAS VEGAS --- The Fresno State baseball team defeated the UNLV Rebels 9-4 on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Stadium.
The Bulldogs rallied from a three-run deficit by scoring four times in the fifth, including a two-run go-ahead home run to straightaway center field by junior Aaron Judge that gave Fresno State a 4-3 lead.
"That was probably the best swing I've seen from him," Fresno State head coach Mike Batesole said of Judge.
The 'Dogs added two more in the seventh and three more in the ninth in cruising to the five-run victory over the Rebels.
Fresno State got a great relief outing from sophomore right-hander Derick Velazquez (4-2), who earned his fourth win of the year by throwing seven innings of relief and allowing just one run while striking out six.
"He pitched inside very well," Batesole said Velazquez. "That really opened up his options and was huge for us."
The win keeps Fresno State (16-29, 10-14 Mountain West) in fifth place in the conference standings, but just one game back of Nevada for fourth place. New Mexico clinched the MW regular season title on Sunday with a win over Air Force and losses by both UNLV (30-17, 13-11 MW) and SDSU, who lost to Nevada 4-3.
Fresno State returns to Beiden Field for its final seven regular season games starting Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. PT versus Hawai'i.
