SAN JOSE, Calif. - In the third game of the series Fresno State (29-24, 14-4) swept the San Jose State (27-22, 6-12) Spartans with a 12-9 score Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. On the day Fresno State tallied 19 hits in 44 at bats. In the series the Bulldogs marked 56 hits in 126 at bats.
Fresno State has now won its eighth straight WAC game improving to a 29-24 overall record. The Bulldogs remain in first place in conference standings with a 14-4 record.
With the bases loaded in the top of the third inning Tommy Mendonca brought two runs in on a single to the right side at 4-0. Alan Ahmady brought the last run in the third inning on a single to right field scoring Lewis.
With Sandell in scoring position he would be brought in by Loren Storey on a single at 6-0.
San Jose State scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double from Ryan Angel at 6-1.
With runners at first and second in top of the sixth inning Fresno State took an 8-1 lead when Loren Storey tripled to right center. Scoring the ninth run of the game Brian Lapin tripled to right field bringing in Storey.
The Spartans scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with runners in scoring position on two singles at 10-3. San Jose State scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 10-6 score.
Fresno State scored its last run in the top of the ninth inning when Alan Ahmady hit his sixth home run of the season at 11-6.
San Jose State would not give up as it scored its final three runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 12-9 final.
Susdorf, Ahmady, Sandell went 3-for-5. Storey went 4-for-6 with three singles, one triple and four RBI's. Lewis went 2-for-4 with one double, one single and one RBI.
Fresno State will continue WAC play next week for its final home series against Louisiana Tech (32-18, 12-7). The first game will begin Friday at 6:00 p.m. The following two games will proceed with a 6:05 p.m. start on Saturday and a 1:05 p.m. start on Sunday.
