RUSTON, La. - The Fresno State baseball team lost the final game of the series to Louisiana Tech, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs split the four-game series with La Tech and are 32-11 on the season. The Dogs are 12-7 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Bulldogs tallied nine hits in the series finale against Louisiana Tech. Brennan Gowens, Aaron Judge and Jacob Alvarez all went 2-for-4 at the plate. Senior Jordan Ribera recorded a game-high three RBIs.
The Dogs turned a pair in the first and second innings. The Bulldogs have fielded six double plays this weekend at J.C. Love Field. Fresno State has turned 46 double plays this season.
Senior Garrett Weber recorded the first hit of the game for the Bulldogs with a single to center field in the second inning.
In the third inning, Alvarez led off with a single to third base. Gowens hit a line drive to right field for a single and moved Alvarez to third base. Junior Dusty Robinson drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field and the Dogs lead 1-0.
Ribera extended the Dogs lead to 3-0 after hitting a two-run homer over the right field wall. Ribera has hit three home runs and recorded 11 RBIs this series.
Louisiana Tech answered in the bottom of the third inning scoring four runs on four hits taking the lead 4-3.
Tom Harlan struck out four batters in his 11th start of the year. The lefty picked up the loss and is 4-3 on the mound. He threw three and two-thirds innings allowing five earned runs.
In the fourth inning, La Tech increased its lead 5-3 with a solo home run to left field from senior Clint Ewing. Four of the five runs scored by Louisiana Tech were by two home runs.
Right-hander Cody Kendall came into the game in the fourth inning. The junior struck out one batter in two and two-thirds innings of work.
Alvarez led off the fifth inning with a base hit over the second baseman. Senior Danny Muno followed with a walk to put two Bulldog runners on base. Gowens hit a bunt single for his second hit of the day and loaded the bases. Ribera drew a walk to bring in a run and the Dogs trailed 5-4.
Louisiana Tech scored three insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to ensure the win, 8-4.
