    FRESNO, Calif. - In the rubber match and senior day of the series finale Fresno State (30-25, 15-5) defeated Louisiana Tech (34-20, 14-9) by an 8-2 score Sunday afternoon at Beiden Field.

    Earning the start on the mound Tanner Scheppers (5-4, 5.61) throwing seven innings allowing two runs on five hits.

    Fresno State currently leads the WAC with a 16-5 record and will need two more wins to clinch the conference title.

    The Bulldogs scored their first run of the game on a tough play created by David Hernandez on a single up the middle bringing in Tom Mendonca from third base at 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.

    Tech scored its first run and tied the game on a home run to left field by catcher Matt Combs at 1-1.

    In the top of the fifth inning Louisiana Tech took the lead at 2-1 on a foul ball foul out to left field with Brandon Hudson scoring on the throw.

    The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the fifth inning when Steve Susdorf hit a three run bomb to left field at 4-2.

    Fresno State piled four more runs at 8-2 two scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth and three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a base clearing double from Ozzie Lewis, eventually scoring on the play on two errors.

    On the day Fresno State had 10 hits in 35 at bats. Susdorf went 2-for-4 with one double, one home run and three RBI. Ozzie Lewis went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one single. Hernadez went 2-for-4 with two singles and one RBI.

    Senior Brandon Miller went out on high note throwing one and two-third innings allowing no runs and striking out two batters. Senior Loren Storey was also honored in today's 8-2 victory.

     

     

    Fresno State remains in control of the WAC with a 16-5 record and will win the title outright with two wins in Hawai'i. The Bulldogs will win a share of the WAC title with one win in Hawai'I or one Nevada loss.

    Next week Fresno State will travel to the islands to take on Hawai'i in its last three-game series beginning on Saturday at 3:35 p.m. pacific time.
