Dogs Send Seniors off with Sweep

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team celebrating senior day on Sunday and sent the 2011 senior class off in style with four-game sweep over New Mexico State.
The Bulldogs defeated the Aggies 6-3 to earn the sweep. It is the second year in a row that the Dogs have swept NM State. Fresno State is 36-11 on the season and 16-7 in Western Athletic Conference play.
Prior to the game, the Bulldogs honored the five seniors for all the hard work put in over their careers at Fresno State. The 2011 senior class includes, Greg Gonzalez, Danny Muno, Andy Qualls, Jordan Ribera and Garrett Weber.
The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead powered by Ribera and Weber each driving in a run. Ribera drove in the first run with a single to right field and Weber brought in a run with a sacrifice bunt down the first base line.
Sunday starter Tom Harlan sat the Aggie batters down in order 1-2-3 in the first inning. The lefty worked his way out of a bases loaded jam with back-to-back strikeouts. Harlan struck out seven batters en route to his fifth win of the year on the mound. He threw five and two-thirds innings allowing only one run to drop his ERA from 4.47 to 4.07.
In the fourth inning, the Bulldogs hit back-to-back jacks to extend their lead 4-0. Both Aaron Judge and Austin Wynns hit their second career homers. Wynns hit both his home runs in this series against NM State.
The Bulldogs launched eight homers against the Aggies while only giving up two. Designated hitter Kenny Wise led the team with three home runs in the series. The Dogs offense exploded for 58 hits in four games and outscored the Aggies 55-16.
The Aggies got on the board in the top of the sixth inning scoring one run and trailed the Dogs 4-1.
The Bulldogs answered with a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Junior Brennan Gowens hit an RBI single to right field extending the Dogs lead 5-1. Gowens ended the afternoon 3-for-4 at the plate.
In the seventh inning, New Mexico State tacked on two more runs off a double by Argenis Paz and trailed the Bulldogs 5-3.
Taylor Garrison took over on the mound in the top of the seventh inning. The righty helped turn a 3-6-1 double play to get out of a bases loaded jam. Garrison sat the batters down in order in the eighth inning. The junior recorded his third save of 2011 and struck out three batters in two and two-thirds of scoreless relief.
Aaron Judge led off the eighth inning with a bunt single back towards the pitcher's mound. Wynns moved him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Hutcheson brought home the run with a single up the middle giving the Bulldogs an insurance run.
The Bulldogs won the last game of the series 6-3 over New Mexico State and conclude conference play against Nevada on Thursday, May 19 at 6:05 p.m.
