Dogs Fall to Roadrunners

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team lost the third game of the series against CSU Bakersfield 5-2 on Saturday night. The Bulldogs are 37-13 on the season and conclude the 2011 regular season on Sunday against the Roadrunners.
The 2011 regular season Co-WAC champions recorded five hits against the Runners.
Dusty Robinson took the Roadrunners starter Tommy Hoenshell deep in the first inning giving the Dogs the lead 1-0. Robinson's solo homer over the left field fence is his 14th of the year and the most in the Western Athletic Conference. The junior has 45 career home runs in his three year career and is 11 off the career record of 56 set by former teammate Tom Mendonca.
The Bulldogs added another run in the second inning after Scott David laid a bunt down the first base line allowing Garrett Weber to score. The Dogs took a 2-0 lead into the bottom half of the inning.
The Roadrunner answered in the bottom of the second inning scoring two runs on two hits and tying the game 2-2.
Freshman Tyler Linehan sat the batters down in order in the third and fifth innings. The lefty struck out two batters in his seventh start of the season. Linehan allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings of work.
The Bulldog defense kept the game tied after senior Danny Muno threw a runner out at home plate. He fielded a ground ball threw home to David, who tagged the runner out to preserve the 2-2 tie. The infield turned a pair to get out of the inning after giving up a leadoff double.
CSU Bakersfield took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring a run. The Dogs trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh inning.
Cody Kendall took over on the mound in the seventh inning making his 19th appearance in 2011.
The Runners added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and defeated the Dogs 5-2.
The Bulldogs won the first meeting between the teams earlier this season and after two-straight losses trail the series 2-1. The 2011 regular season wraps up for Fresno State on Sunday, May 22 against the Roadrunners at Hardt Field.
