`Dogs Face San Jose State Friday

HONOLULU - The Fresno State baseball team had seven hits and four runs, but fell, 7-4, to New Mexico State in the first round of the 2009 Napa Auto Parts WAC Tournament. Since the beginning of the WAC Tournament the Bulldogs are 12-1 in tournament play. New Mexico State scored first in the first inning taking an early lead, 1-0. Right-hander Matt Morse got out of a jam in the first inning getting two outs with the bases loaded, preventing the Aggies from increasing their lead. Leadoff batter Danny Muno opened the first inning drawing a walk. Muno leads the country in getting walked with 62. Freshman Dusty Robinson battled through the pitch count and blasted a two-run home runs over the left field wall giving the Bulldogs the lead, 2-1. Right fielder Brennan Gowens made a great lunging catch keeping the Aggies from hitting a double. Catcher Trent Garrison singled to left field. Junior Isacc Vivas reached base after getting hit by a pitch moving Garrison to second base. Muno singled to right field to load the bases. Robinson walked advancing the runners and bringing home Garrison as the `Dogs lead, 3-1. The Aggies scored a run in the top of the fifth inning trailing the Bulldogs, 3-2. Morse sat down the Aggie batters in order in the sixth inning. The junior struck out six Aggies in 6 2/3 innings. New Mexico State scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning taking the lead, 4-3. Garrison singled to shallow right center field in the eighth inning. Muno singled to left field getting caught in a pickle between first and second base allowing pinch runner Trent Soares score tying the game, 4-4.
The Aggies scored three runs in the ninth inning winning the game, 7-4. The Bulldogs face San Jose State tomorrow at 6 pm PT.
