HONOLULU - The Fresno State baseball team rallied for four runs in the top of the eighth to seal the win over Hawai'i, 10-3. The Bulldogs head to the final day of the WAC Tournament for the fourth straight year in a row.

The `Dogs have faced and survive two elimination games in the 2009 post season. The Bulldogs are now 14-1 in WAC Tournament play since 2006. Fresno State has an overall record of 30-28.

The Bulldogs hit two key home runs against the Rainbows. 2009 WAC Player of the Year Tom Mendonca opened the game with a solo home run to give Fresno State an early lead. In the seventh inning First Team All-WAC second baseman Danny Muno hit a two-run home run over the center field wall to regain the lead for the `Dogs.

Mendonca kicked off the Bulldog offense with a home run hit well over the 385 sign in center field giving the Bulldogs the lead, 1-0.

Hawai'i scored an unearned run in the second inning tying the game, 1-1.

Catcher Trent Garrison caught a Rainbow runner attempting to steal second base. The freshman has caught three runners in the tournament.

Freshman Josh Poytress got the starting nod from head coach Mike Batesole. The left-hander allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings.

In the bottom of the third inning, the `Dogs dodged a bullet when Brennan Gowens made a diving catch in right field and made the easy double play throwing the `Bow runner out first base to retire the side.

Gowens walked in the fourth inning. Wise hit an RBI double to right center field allowing Gowens to score from first base and the `Dogs regain the lead, 2-1.



Muno extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a ground rule double over the right center field wall.

The Rainbows scored a run to tie the game for the second time this afternoon, 2-2.

In his homecoming back to the islands, Gene Escat came out of the bullpen in the sixth inning and got the Bulldogs out of a jam. Escat picked up his first win of the year against the Rainbows.

In the seventh inning, shortstop Isacc Vivas singled through the left side. Muno hit a two-run bomb over the center field wall to give the Bulldogs the lead, 4-2.

First baseman Jordan Ribera singled to first base and was called safe after diving head first. Trent Soares pinch ran for Ribera. Gowens singled to left field moving Soares to second base. Steve Detwiler pinch hit for Wise. Soares and Gowens advanced to third and second base on a balk. Detwiler hit a double to center field bringing home Soares and Gowens extending the `Dogs lead, 6-2.

The Rally continued with a bunt single from Hedstrom moving Detwiler to third base. Garrison hit a ground rule double allowing Detwiler to cross home plate and moving Hedstrom to third base. The Bulldogs lead, 7-2.

Vivas walked to load the bases for Muno. Muno hit a sacrifice fly to right field bringing in Hedstrom increasing the lead, 8-2.

Freshman Tom Harlan got back-to-back strikeouts in the eighth inning after coming in relief in the seventh inning.

In the top of the ninth inning, Gowens walked. Detwiler singled through the left side advancing Gowens to second base. Vivas tripled to left center field allowing Gowens and Detwiler to come home and the `Dogs lead, 10-2.

The Rainbows scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning trailing, 10-3.

Harlan earned his first save of the year as the Bulldogs win, 10-3.
