Fresno State Baseball Notes vs. Pepperdine

Cody Kendall drew the start, his fifth of the season. It was his second career appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Top of the Second
Cody Kendall got Matt Forgatch to ground into an inning-ending double play when the Waves had runners on the corners. The 'Dogs also ended the first inning by turning a double play.
Bottom of the Second
Kenneth Wise led off the inning with a single to left field and he advanced two bases to third on a throwing error by Pepperdine left fielder Floyd Given.
Austin Wynns followed with a suicide squeeze, which allowed Wise to score when Wave pitcher Corey Miller couldn't handle the bunt.
Jordan Brink had a two-out RBI for the second-straight day with his single to left that scored Wynns from third.
Both Fresno State runs in the second were unearned.
Top of the Fifth
Cody Kendall got the Waves to go three-up and three down in the fifth. The last out was the 10th-straight batter he retired, seven of which were on infield groundouts.
Bottom of the Fifth
Pepperdine committed two errors and had a passed ball in the fifth, allowing the Bulldogs to load the bases up with one out.
Kenneth Wise took advantage for the Bulldogs and cleared the bases with a three-run double to right-center to give the 'Dogs a 5-0 lead.
Top of the Sixth
Kendall retired Pepperdine 1-2-3 again in the sixth, his fourth-straight inning doing so. His streak of consecutive batters retired went up to 13.
Top of the Seventh
Joe Sever singled off of Kendall's foot with one out in the seventh, ending Kendall's streak at 14 consecutive batters retired.
That was the first of four-straight singles from the Waves, as they scored two runs in the inning to cut Fresno State's lead down to 5-2.
Kendall ended the inning by inducing another ground-ball double play, the third of the game.
Top of the Ninth
Pepperdine started the ninth with three-straight singles to load the bases up with no outs.
Kendall walked Sam Mayer to bring in a run and cut the lead down to 5-3.
Fresno State then brought in Taylor Garrison with the bases still loaded and no outs.
Floyd Given singled off Garrison to bring home Pepperdine's fourth run of the game.
Matt Forgatch hit a grand slam to give Pepperdine a 8-5 lead.
