Red Team Rallies To Take Game One of Fall World Series

    FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State junior catcher Brandon Marcelli laced a single to center in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive home senior infielder Brian Pierce with the game winning run as the Red Team won the first game of the Fall Baseball Intrasquad Series, 6-5, Thursday at Beiden Field.

    The Red team tallied one run in each of the first two innings of the game on the strength of RBI doubles by junior infielder Chris Patrick and freshman outfielder Chase Moore. Junior infielder Casey McGehee gave the Blue squad a 3-2 lead with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning. The Blue team tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning to stretch its lead to three runs at 5-2.

    The Red team rallied for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the ninth capped off by Marcelli's game winning hit. Senior infielder Scott Beshears, senior outfielder Joey Myers and senior infielder Brian Pierce also recorded RBIs in the inning.

    The series continues Saturday, October 26, at 1:30 p.m. PDT.
