Four 'Dogs Receive All-MW Preseason Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The staff at College Sports Madness announced Friday its Mountain West Preseason All-Conference teams, tabbing three 'Dogs to its All-MW Second-Team while Jimmy Lambert picked up Preseason Freshman of the Year honors.
Lambert, a freshman pitcher from San Dimas High School, enters his first season with the Bulldogs following a senior season where he finished with a 13-1 record, 1.18 ERA with 80 strikeouts against 16 walks in 94.2 innings pitched. He was named MaxPreps Medium School Second-Team All-State, a Cal-Hi Sports Southern Section All Division IV team selection, First-Team San Gabriel Valley Tribune All-Area and a back-to-back First-Team All-Valle Vista pitcher as selected by league coaches.
Brink, who was used as a utility player last season, will shift full-time focus to the mound in 2014. As a sophomore he led the team with 65 strikeouts in 59.2 innings pitched. He earned eight starts and appeared 17 times at the bump. Brink garnered Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honors twice, highlighted by a week where he threw his first complete game with 12 strikeouts in a 5-3 win over Air Force. Brink was recently ranked as the No. 25 collegiate pitching prospect according to Baseball America and the No. 55 MLB Draft prospect - Perfect Game.
The reigning Mountain West Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year, Blake Quinn, returns for his sophomore season after leading the MW in conference play with a 2.15 ERA last season. He was later named the 12th Freshman All-American in program history and the fourth pitcher to receive the honor at Fresno State, as selected by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Quinn started eight games as a freshman, appeared 14 times, and led the 'Dogs with a 3.02 ERA in 2013. He was also a second-team All-MW selection following his freshman campaign.
Mariscal, a strong hold in the Bulldogs infield who has started in 114 of 115 games in his first two seasons, starts his junior season as one of the most experienced position players on the squad. Mariscal was named a second-team All-MW selection last year and returns with the highest batting average from the 2013 team (.300). He is the No. 90 ranked collegiate position player - Baseball America.
The Bulldogs season opener is a week from Friday, on Feb. 14, at UC Irvine. Following the 'Dogs three-game series on the road, they return to Beiden Field to open the season at home on Tuesday, Feb. 18 versus Grand Canyon.
