Midweek Game Awaits Bulldogs

    FRESNO, Calif.- The Bulldogs are looking to ride the momentum of their 17-2 win over Butler Sunday into their first road contest of the year. Fresno State will face-off against CSU Bakersfield Feb. 22 in the 'Dogs first midweek game of the 2012 season.

    The last time Fresno State faced the roadrunners in a midweek contest, the Bulldogs defeated CSU Bakersfield 9-2.

    RIVAL HISTORY IN A NUTSHELL
    CSU Bakersfield is is currently independent of any conference, but will join the Western Athletic Conference for the 2012-13 season. The Roadrunners have a 72-89 program record. They are led by head coach Bill Kermen who has been with the progam since it began in 2009. Kermen has a 312-245-3 career record in 10 years as a collegiate head coach. The two programs have been playing since the Roadrunners started their baseball program. Fresno State leads the series 8-7 all-time, but the Runners owned the 2011 series 3-1.

    NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
    Sophomore left-handed pitcher Tyler Linehanwas named a "Louisville Slugger" National Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 13-10) by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper for his performance against Butler in the Bulldogs season opener. Linehan struck out a career-high 13 batters in the win, walking only two of the 31 batters he faced to receive the honor.

    WAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
    Senior Thomas Harlanbecame the eighth Bulldog in the past five years to earn Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. The award is his first from the conference. Harlan struck out a career-high eight batters, walking only one of the 31 batters he faced against Butler.


     

     

    LETHAL LEFTY'S
    The Bulldogs two starting left-handed pitchers each earned shutouts over Butler. Sophomore Tyler Linehan went 7.2 innings (Feb. 17) in the 'Dogs' 3-0 season opening win. Senior Thomas Harlanpitched a complete game shutout (Feb. 18) in the 6-0 win.

    IT'S KIND OF A BIG DEAL
    With a 587-395-1 overall record, head coach Mike Batesoleis just 13 wins away from reaching 600 for his career. He has amassed over 300 wins at Fresno State in nine season at the helm and is 169-102 overall in Western Athletic Conference play.

    SPEED KILLS
    Fresno State went 9-for-11 in stolen bases against Butler (Feb. 17-19). The over 80-percent succes rate is an improvement off the 70-percent success rate in stolen bases last season.

    LOOK WHO'S SWINGING THE BIG BAT
    Junior Daniel Moultriehad a huge weekend on the diamond for the Bulldogs. The Clovis West grad is on a four-game hit streak, notching multiple hits in three consecutive games. He had the best offensive game of his career against Butler (Feb. 18) when he tied or set new career-highs in hits, doubles, total bases and stolen bases.

    LOCAL BOYS LOOKING GOOD
    Freshmen Jordan Luplow (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan HS) and Chris Mariscal(Fresno, Calif./Clovis North HS) have immediately impacted the Bulldogs lineup. Both made the most of their starting spots, combining for 11 hits, nine runs and six RBI in their first year on the diamond.
