Pepsi Johnny Quik Championship
March 15, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - Gonzaga used a seven-run sixth inning to create a come-from-behind victory over Utah in the championship game of the 30th Annual Pepsi Johnny Quik held at Pete Beiden Field on the Fresno State campus. Gonzaga won 10-7, winning its first Pepsi Johnny Quik Classic in 10 tries. The Utes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and after scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning, held a 6-3 lead over the Bulldogs. Gonzaga however had seven singles in the bottom half of the inning and took advantage of one Ute error while taking the lead with seven runs. Utah added one run in the eighth to pull to within three runs at 10-7 but that's as close as it got. The teams combined for 23 hits in a very entering game. Gonzaga catcher Grant Kveder was named the 2008 Pepsi Johnny Quick Ted Gavrilis Most Valuable Player.
