Bulldog baseball returns to Beiden Field this Tuesday after a two week hiatus, starting with Pac-12 opponent California to kick-off a five-game homestand. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
Fresno State closed out its seven-game road trip on Saturday at Nevada. Despite scoring a series season-high 36 runs, the Wolf Pack stole the series with a pair of late game surges in games two and three after the Bulldogs trounced the Pack 20-10 in the opener. In game one, the 'Dogs scored a Mountain West season-high 20 runs, scoring 19 unanswered at one point to open a 20-3 lead in the seventh. On Friday, it appeared the Bulldogs picked up where they left off as they plated five runs in the first inning, but Nevada battled back and won the game 9-8 in 12 innings. In the finale, the Wolf Pack erased an 8-2 deficit in the eighth inning, scoring four in the eighth and three in the ninth to win 9-8.
California dropped its first two matchups against No. 6 Washington 4-3 and 6-2 over the weekend, but took the series finale 7-1 at Evans Diamond on Saturday. It was the Golden Bears' eighth win over a ranked opponent this season as Cal improved to 16-19 overall and 5-10 in the Pac-12.
RHP Blake Quinn (0-1, 7.36 ERA) will make his third start and seventh appearance on Tuesday for the Bulldogs. Cal will throw RHP Alex Martinez (0-2, 5.73 ERA).
On March 18, Fresno State defeated California 6-0, led by William Munro's complete game shutout. The Bulldogs' win snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Bears that dated back to 2004. The Bears' Tuesday starter, Martinez, also started on March 18 at Beiden Field. He worked 4.0 innings, surrendering six hits and two earned runs.
Tuesday is Diamond Dogs' Super Hero Night. Fans will receive free admission at the gate if dressed as their favorite super hero, although, a strict no mask policy will be enforced.
The Bulldogs will face Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday as part of a back-to-back at Beiden Field. The `Dogs will close out their five-game homestand with a Friday-Sunday series against Air Force. All veterans and active military will receive free admission throughout the three-game series vs. Air Force as part of the Fresno State Salute to Services weekend.
