The Diamond 'Dogs will look to make it 2-for-2 against Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, part of a home-and-home nonconference series with the Titans from the Big West. First pitch from Goodwin Field is set for 6 p.m.

A week ago to the day, the Bulldogs outlasted Fullerton 2-1 in a 16 inning marathon at Beiden Field on April 23. Following the slim 16-inning win, head coach Mike Batesole could not recall a similar game in his 19 years of coaching Division-I baseball.

"I think of all the years I've coached Division I baseball, I've never coached a defensive game like that," said Batesole. "That was phenomenal. You could go around the horn and almost every guy had more than one fantastic play, and clutch plays. That was something to see."

Manny Argomaniz provided a solo home run, the first of three homers on the week, in the eighth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Chris Mariscal provided the late game heroics with an infield RBI single to win the game in the bottom of the 16th.

In the 92-game history between Fresno State and Cal State Fullerton since 1967, last Wednesday's game marked the longest game by innings the two programs ever played.

Freshman Fred Schlichtholz was named the Mountain West Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for his three innings of relief work that led to the Bulldogs closing out their win against Fullerton. Schlichtholz entered the game in the 14th and allowed just one runner on base en route to earning his first career Division-I win.

Both the Bulldogs and Titans went on to sweep their respective conference series over the weekend. Fresno State outscored Air Force 25-3 over three games to sweep its series and extend its winning streak to five games. Its longest streak since a six-game streak, Feb.21-March 2, that included series sweeps over Nevada and then-ranked No. 24 Texas A&M.

In Big West play, Fullerton defeated Hawai'i in all three home games over the weekend, although they needed extra innings in two of the games. The Titans hosted the University of San Diego for the first of two midweek games on Tuesday evening. Fullerton fell 6-5 to the Toreros.

Fresno State has won two in a row against Cal State Fullerton, with its last win prior to this season's on March 11, 2010 at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational. Fullerton's last win against the 'Dogs came at the NCAA San Diego Regional in 2007, which ended the Bulldogs' run that season.

The Bulldogs' trip to Fullerton kicks off a five-game road trip, its final road trip of the season. Following Wednesday night's game, Fresno State will head north for a three-game Mountain West conference series at San Jose State before closing out the five-game swing at Bakersfield on Wednesday, May 7. Fresno State plays its final four regular season games at Beiden Field before the Mountain West Conference Tournament, May 21-25.

Neither team has named a starter for Wednesday's game.
