About the UNLV Rebels
UNLV enters the weekend series against the 'Dogs with the best overall record in the Mountain West at 28-16 overall but sit third in the conference standings with an 11-10 mark this season. After dropping four straight on the road, including a three-game sweep by conference foe New Mexico, the Rebels bounced back Tuesday with a four home run outburst that led to a 20-6 victory over UC Riverside in its first game of a five-game home stand. UNLV holds an 18-6 home record at Wilson Stadium and an 8-4 mark against MW opponents. As a team the Rebels own the No. 2 ranked batting average (.304) and ERA (4.31) in the MW with Patrick Armstrong boasting the top batting average (.396) and Buddy Borden owning the top ERA (2.19) in 11 appearances. The Rebels are coached by Tim Chambers who is in his third season. Chambers returned 17 lettermen from last season's squad that finished fourth in the MW (26-31, 7-17 MW).
Here Comes The Judge!
Fresno State junior outfielder Aaron Judge has been ruling pitchers throughout his career and stepped onto the national stage last July when he won the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Baseball Home Run Derby in Omaha. This season, Judge leads the Bulldogs with a .346 batting average, a .430 on base percentage, a .572 slugging percentage, 55 hits, seven home runs, 31 runs, 26 RBI, 25 walks, 11 doubles, two triples and 91 total bases. He is also 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts.
Judge Named to Midseason National Watch List
Judge was named to USA Baseball's midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List on Thursday. The junior was also one of the 32 original members to remain on the Golden Spikes Watch List from its original 50-man list released during the preseason on Feb. 14.
The Watch List features 60 of the nation's top amateur players, and it will be a "rolling" list to ensure that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the Golden Spikes Award until May 28 when 30 semifinalists for the award will be announced. The Golden Spikes Award trophy will be awarded live on MLB Network for the third year in a row, with a live presentation scheduled during The Rundown on Friday, July 19.
"He's Brinking It!"
Fresno State sophomore Jordan Brink earned the Bulldogs a five-game sweep of Air Force with his first complete-game performance on Sunday with a 5-3 win. Brink threw a career-best 12 strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs without walking a batter over the nine innings.
