FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team closes out the regular season on the road against Sacramento State, May 14-16. The Bulldogs open the four-game series with single games Thursday and Friday at 3 pm and conclude the weekend with a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday.
The `Dogs took three of five games in 2008 and the last time the two teams faced off was in the WAC Tournament. The Bulldogs beat the Hornets, 3-2, to advance in the tournament. They have a three-game winning streak against Sacramento State heading into the weekend.

Mendonca in WAC Top 5
Junior Tom Mendonca broke Fresno State's home run record in April after hitting his 44th career home run against Louisiana Tech. The third baseman has hit five more since becoming the home run king. Mendonca is one the top 5 home run hitters in WAC history. He need five more to catch up to ASU's Bill Horner, who hit 56 from 1976-78 and move into fourth place.
Batesole Nears 500
In his 14th year as a head coach, Mike Batesole is one win away from earning his 500th victory. Batesole has led his team to five conference titles (four WAC and one Big West) and in 2008 won his first national title with the Bulldogs.
`Dogs Bats Heat Up
The Bulldogs bats came alive over the weekend and as a team hit .366. The `Dogs tallied 14 doubles, a triple and nine home runs against the `Bows. They knocked out 52 hits and scored 47 runs. The Bulldogs also recorded 43 RBIs.
Freshman on Fire
Freshman Dusty Robinson's bat heated up over the weekend against Hawai'i. The left fielder hit .706 with four doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs. He also had a stolen base and struck out only once.
Tom Mendonca has 22 home runs in 2009 and now leads the WAC in home runs hit this season. The junior hit two home runs against Hawai'i to move into the No. 1 spot. The third baseman is currently second in the country in home runs and is three behindthe national leader.
Wonderdogs Book Tour
The next round of book signings have begun for Underdogs to Wonderdogs author Paul Loeffler. Loeffler has four signings around the Valley. The first stop was in San Jose on April 25. Loeffler's next stop was April 30, 5-7 p. m., at Russo's Bookstore in Bakersfield, Calif. Clayton Allison and Kris Tomlinson will join Loeffler on May13, 4-6 p. m., at Borders in Visailia. The final stop on the book tour will be May 16, starting a 7:30 at Borders in Turlock, Calif.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs close out the regular season with a trip north to battle Sacramento State Friday through Sunday. The `Dogs and Hornets play Thursday at 3, Friday at 3 pm and wrap up with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 12 pm.
