FRESNO, Calif. -
The Fresno State baseball team will close out the 2010 Western Athletic Conference season at home with back-to-back series at Beiden Field. The Bulldogs host San Jose State May 14-16 for a four-game series and will conclude the regular season against Sacramento State at home May 21-23.
The series between the `Dogs and Spartans began in 195.1 And 217 games later the Bulldogs lead, 146-71. Fresno State won three of five games in 2009, including a victory at the WAC Tournament.
About the Spartans
San Jose State is 18-29 overall and 6-10 in WAC play. Jason Martin has the best average on the team, hitting .389 with 75 hits and 21 RBIs. Blake McFarland has the best ERA of the starting pitchers (3.91) and has recorded 58 strikeouts.
Robinson Earns Weekly Accolades
Dusty Robinson was named WAC Hitter of the Week and Louisville Slugger Player of the Week for May 3-9. Robinson hit .571 (12-for-21) against New Mexico State and recorded 11 runs, 12 hits, 12 RBIs, four home runs, four walks, two doubles and a triple last week. He also had a slugging percentage of 1.333 and an on-base percentage of .619. In the third game of the series, Robinson went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a triple and five RBIs.
Red Hot on the Road
The Bulldogs are red hot on the road and have accumulated a record of 15-6 while away from Pete Beiden Field. In the last three trips to Las Cruces, N.M., the Bulldogs have won 10 of 11 games at Presley Askew Field. Nevada had lost only two games at home before the Bulldogs came to Reno, Nev. Fresno State won two of four game at Peccole Park. The `Dogs won three of four games at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu, which is one of the hardest places to play in the WAC.
Ranking the `Dogs
For the third time this season the Bulldogs have moved into the national rankings. Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has the `Dogs ranked No. 25 in their top 30 poll. Fresno State is also receiving votes in the NCBWA poll and USA Today/ESPN poll.
Ribera Leads the Nation
Jordan Ribera leads the team, conference and nation in home runs with 23. He is ahead of Jacob Tanis from Mercer University by three home runs. As of May 11, the first baseman is second the nation in home runs per game with .46 a game. Ribera is fourth in the nation in total bases with 157 and 13th in slugging percentage (.789).
Bulldogs Power Hitting Lineup
As a team Fresno State is hitting .321 this season and 10 of the Bulldogs are hitting over .300. Head coach Mike Batesole's lineup can consist of six to eight players hitting over .300. Garrett Weber has the best average of the starters at .385. Leadoff man Danny Muno has an on base percentage of .462, while cleanup hitter Jordan Ribera leads the country in home runs with 23.
