Fresno State is set to host Nevada in a Mountain West series to close the regular season.
Fresno State and Nevada are tied for fourth in the MW standings, winner of series will earn the No. 4 seed in the 2013 MW Tournament (hosted at Fresno State's Pete Beiden Field, May 22-26).
Fresno State's Aaron Judge won the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Baseball Home Run Derby and entered the 2013 season with three Preseason All-American honors.
Judge was also selected to both the preseason and midseason USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Watch List, which honors the nation's best amateur player.
Right-handers Jordan Brink and Derick Velazquez, along with left-hander Tyler Linehan have earned Mountain West Pitchers of the Week this season.
Fresno State Ends Regular Season by Hosting Nevada
As winners of eight of its past 10 home games, Fresno State will close out the regular season at Pete Beiden Field with home games versus Nevada (May 16-18). The 'Dogs and Pack will play a three-game series with single games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All games will start at 6:35 p.m. PT and can also be heard live on 790 AM ESPN The Deuce.
Bulldog Seniors to be Honored Prior to Saturday's Game
Fresno State seniors Trent Garrison and Austin Wynns will be honored prior to Saturday's regular season finale at Beiden Field. The duo are batting .265 or higher with a combined total of 87 hits, 44 runs batted in, 43 runs scored, 18 doubles (nine each), two triples, and 31 walks.
About the Nevada Wolf Pack
Nevada (24-27) enters the season's final weekend series against the 'Dogs with an identical 11-16 conference record with the outcome to determine the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds for the upcoming MW Baseball Championship. Nevada hits the road for Fresno after an eight game homestand which started April 30. The Wolf Pack won two and dropped six at Peccole Park with most recently falling in all three games to UNLV. On the road this season Nevada owns a 9-11 record and a 5-7 mark against conference opponents. Nevada has been led Braden Shipley from the mound and most recently Brad Gerig from behind the plate. RHP Shipley is 7-3 with a 3.02 ERA to go with 84 strikeouts in 92.1 innings and has a fastball that has been clocked as high as 99 mph. In his last eight games Gerig is batting .385 with five runs scored, five doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBIs since moving to third base from the outfield in that time. The Wolf Pack are coached by Gary Powers who is in his 31st season. Powers returned 20 lettermen from last season's squad.
Here Comes The Judge!
Fresno State junior outfielder Aaron Judge has been ruling pitchers throughout his career and stepped onto the national stage last July when he won the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Baseball Home Run Derby in Omaha. This season, Judge leads the Bulldogs with a .374 batting average, a .463 on base percentage, a .643 slugging percentage, 68 hits, nine home runs, 38 runs, 31 RBIs, 30 walks, 14 doubles, four triples and 117 total bases. He is also 11-for-13 in stolen base attempts.
Judge Named to Midseason National Watch List
The Bulldogs' Aaron Judge was named to USA Baseball's midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List. The junior outfielder was also one of the 32 original members to remain on the Golden Spikes Watch List from its original 50-man list released during the preseason on Feb. 14.
2013 Mountain West Baseball Tournament Tickets on Sale Now
Fresno State will host the 2013 Mountain West Baseball Tournament from May 22-26. All session tickets are available for $30 for upper reserved (college student, senior citizens, and youth), $40 for upper reserved (adult) and $50 for lower box reserved. Single session tickets can be purchased for as low as $10 in the upper deck for students, senior citizens and youth, while upper reserved for adults are available for $13. Seats in the lower box reserved sections can be purchased for $15 for each day. Parking will be available in the blue and red lots for $8 per day for each car. Lots will be open three hours before the day's first pitch with no enter/exit privileges.
