Baseball Signs Eight in Early Period
Baseball Wins Seventh Straight WAC Title
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head baseball coach Mike Batesole announced the addition of five future Bulldogs - Derick Velasquez (Los Banos, Calif.), Trent Woodward (Chino Hills, Calif.), Tim Borst (Hemet, Calif.), Cameron Stewart (San Jose, Calif.), and Nick Villar (Lake Forest, Calif.) - to the program for next season.
"These five student athletes will be a great addition to the eight players we signed in the November signing period," Batesole said.

Velasquez, a 6-3, 180-pound right handed pitcher from Merced College, and Woodward, a 6-2, 210-pound switch hitting catcher out of Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif., signed National Letters of intent to play for the Bulldogs and attend Fresno State this fall.
Additionally, three high school student athletes - Borst, Stewart and Villar - have accepted admission to Fresno State and have been added to the 2012-13 roster.
Borst is a right handed pitcher from Taquitz High School. Stewart is a right handed pitcher and left handed hitting first baseman from Valley Christian High School. And Villar joins the Bulldogs as a right handed hitting outfielder from El Toro High School.
These five student-athletes will join the eight players that signed letters of intent in November on the 2013 Bulldog Baseball team.
Stewart and Velasquez, in addition to early signees Taylor Ward and Brody Russell, were selected during this week's MLB Draft and have until 2 p.m. PT on Friday, July 13 to decide on if they will maintain their commitment to Fresno State or play professionally.
"We are concerned that we may lose some part of one of our best-ever recruiting classes as we had four incoming student-athletes drafted, but this is always an exciting time of year," Batesole noted.
In 2012, Fresno State advanced to its sixth NCAA Tournament in the past seven seasons and captured its seventh straight conference championship behind clutch pitching and hitting down the stretch in which the Bulldogs fended off four elimination games before falling on day three of the 2012 NCAA Stanford Regional.
Fresno State will join the Mountain West on July 1 and begin competing against conference opponents Air Force, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV during the 2013 season focused on winning its eighth consecutive conference crown.
The Bulldogs will also host the 2013 Mountain West Conference Tournament at Beiden Field next May.
