Bulldog Baseball Nominated for ESPY Award
July 1, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - After winning the programs first ever national title last week in Omaha, the Fresno State baseball team has received unprecedented national attention. The most recent recognition came on Tuesday when it was announced that the Bulldog baseball team has been nominated for an ESPY Award in the Best Upset category.
"This means a lot," Fresno State senior left fielder Steve Susdorf said. "The ESPY awards are pretty cool and to have the opportunity to hang out with celebrities will be fun. It's real good for Fresno State and the community. This will be great for coach Batesole when he recruits."
The event will be July 16 in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre downtown. The program will air on ESPN, Sunday, July 20, at 6 p.m. PT. This year's show, which is in its 16th year, is hosted by Justin Timberlake.
The Bulldogs are the lowest seed to ever win an NCAA title and they will be up against the New York Giants, who upset the previously unbeaten New England Patriots for the Super Bowl title; the Appalachian State football team, which upended Michigan in the Big House in the season opener and horse racing's Da'Tara, the Belmont Stakes winner over Big Brown.
The winner of the competition will be determined by fan voting only. Fans can log onto http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/specialsection/espys2008/ to vote for the Fresno State baseball team.
The ESPY award voting is July 1-12.
